Neon!
Those bright, persistent signs beckon us to
buy beer or wine coolers, to fill up with super
unleaded or to check into a motel with rooms
starting at $19-95 with direct-dial phones and
cable TV.
These signs of the times aren't always beautiful,
but they're very collectible, and can transform
showrooms with their dazzling displays of red,
blue, white and yellow.
They also make great security lighting.
Original neon car signs Pontiac, Ford, etc.
- are large (up to six feet long) and can bring
$1000 and up for nice originals.
Smaller neon signs (beer signs, for example)
run in the $75 to $150 range.
New neon nostalgia signs (Route 66) sell for
$200 to $400.
My personal favorite is the "Rocket Drive-In"
sign with its progressive blinking, but unfortunately
it's still being used to sell hamburgers.
"A simple broken neon can usually be fixed
for less than $100, but extensive damage might
exceed the value of the sign to repair."
