Description:
The Nuffield Corporation produced English taxicabs on a Morris chassis from 1948 until 1950. Three series were built and the older vintage look was directly due to the design having been postpones through WW2. Only three 1949 Series 2 cabs are known to exist; one in Arlington VA, one in London, England and this one.
These cabs were powered by an 1800cc inline overhead value 4 cylinder engines producing 14.9 hp at 300 rpm. The engine was a commercial 4 cylinder Morris engine later adapted for use I BMC engine. This cab’s name is “Oliver”, given to him by his original cab owner, Samuel Brova, Mr Brova sold Oliver in 1967 to Mr. Kenneth Stratton, of Memphis, Tenn. The cab was sold to a museum in Kansas following Mr. Stratton’s death in 1982. It was subsequently purchased by Bill Powell, of Macon Georgia. He runs well, and considering his age and usage, is in excellent condition. Everything still works, from the turn signal to the working brass taxi-meter
