First arriving as part of the Jaguar’s luxury lineup in 1968, the XJ luxury saloon has served as the British automaker’s flagship model for more than 40 years. Interestingly, the XJ was the last saloon to have had the design influence of Sir William Lyons, the company’s founder.
In 1997, the XJ received a major renovation, which improved exterior and exterior styling, technological offerings and driver and passenger experience. Additionally, an all-new, highly praised V8 engine was introduced and was available in 3.2-litre, 4.0-litre and 4.0-litre supercharged versions.
At the very top of the XJ lineup, the supercharged Daimler, known as the Super V8 in the UK and the Vanden Plas in the United States, completed Jaguar’s flagship offerings.
This XJ8 bears the Vanden Plas badge and was the pinnacle of luxury in Jaguar’s 1998 lineup. Meticulously maintained since new, its 4.0-litre supercharged V8 responds at the slightest touch of the pedal and treats its passengers to a luxurious, cloud-like ride.
